Environmental & Social Responsibility

A business should be judged not only on the service it delivers, but on the impact it has on the people, places, and wildlife around it. This page sets out our environmental and social commitments in practical terms. Where a commitment is already in place, we say so. Where it is still in progress, we say that too.

Our targets for cutting emissions, including halving them by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050, are set out in our Climate Action Plan.

Environmental Responsibility

100% Renewable Energy Hosting

Every server we host runs on 100% renewable energy. It is one of the most direct ways an IT provider can reduce its own footprint, and it applies across our entire hosting infrastructure, not a subset of it. This is now independently verified too: AOIT Networks is a verified green hosting provider with the Green Web Foundation, so any partner we host can display their own verified green badge as proof. Extending the same standard to our own day-to-day operations is one of our current priorities, set out below.

Reducing Our Day-to-Day Footprint

Alongside our larger environmental commitments, we maintain a set of everyday operational standards across our offices: eliminating unnecessary paper use, recycling and composting where possible, and monitoring water and energy consumption.

We also encourage the team to choose walking, cycling, or public transport over car travel where practical, and to minimise unnecessary air travel and short car journeys. These measures sit alongside, not in place of, the wider commitments detailed throughout this page.

The AOIT Climate Impact Fund

For every invoice paid, we automatically fund real, verified climate action through our sustainability partners, at no extra cost to the client.

1,613 trees planted
45.5 kg CO2e removed

Ecologi Climate Action Workforce

We have supported Ecologi since 2021. Through our Climate Action Workforce membership, we fund climate projects, carbon offsetting, carbon removal and tree planting on behalf of every AOIT employee. Not only are we committed to reducing our footprint as a business, but also encourage the same in our employees personal lives.

.eco Commitment

AOIT Networks has published a public environmental commitment profile via .eco. This is a transparency pledge rather than a certification or membership, and we describe it as such. Our published commitment is to support positive change for the planet and to report our environmental actions honestly.

Wildlife and Biodiversity: Northern Canopy

AOIT Networks sponsors Northern Canopy, a social enterprise founded by our Managing Director. This reflects a personal commitment to environmental action beyond the workplace, and extends our reach into reforestation and community-led environmental projects across the North East.

Northern Canopy’s planting programme focuses on native broadleaf species, hedgerows, and pollinator-friendly planting, restoring habitat corridors for local wildlife rather than prioritising tree count alone. Our support funds community planting days, in which members of our own team take part directly. Northern Canopy is also one of the two delivery partners behind the automatic carbon removal funded through the AOIT Climate Impact Fund.

Two of the real UK reforestation sites we support through our Ecologi membership.

Coalitions and Commitments

Real change needs businesses to act together, not alone. These are the collective initiatives we are part of, our role in each, and what they contribute.

SME Climate Commitment (UN Race to Zero)

Our role: signatory since September 2026. What it contributes: the SME Climate Commitment is part of the United Nations Race to Zero, a global coalition of businesses, cities and organisations working to halve emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. By signing, we add our voice and our targets to that collective effort, and we report our progress publicly through our Climate Action Plan.

Green Web Foundation

Our role: verified green hosting provider. What it contributes: the Green Web Foundation works with hosting providers, developers and researchers towards a fossil-free internet by 2030. Our verification adds to its open, public dataset of green hosting, and every partner we host can show their own verified green badge.

Ecologi Climate Action Workforce

Our role: member business since 2021. What it contributes: the Climate Action Workforce brings businesses together to fund verified climate projects, carbon removal and tree planting at a scale no single small business could achieve alone.

Social Responsibility

As a North East business, we are committed to investing in the region that supports us.

Supporting Our Local Community

We provide free hosting, website development, Microsoft 365, and general IT support to selected local charities and community groups. We continue to seek new local charities and community organisations to support, and make our expertise and resources available for causes we can stand behind.

Equality and Inclusion

We support programmes and initiatives that promote equality, both within our own organisation and in the wider community. A career in IT and cybersecurity should be genuinely accessible to anyone with the aptitude and interest, regardless of background, and this principle informs our hiring and our community support.

A North East Employer

We are based in Jarrow, and our team is built from the North East. Supporting local employment, and organisations rooted in the same region, is central to how we grow as a business.
